Well that bearded leader of a small island off the coast of the US is back in the news. Fidel Castro, although he’s been ill is apparently feeling much better. First he put out his thoughts on the British upgrading their sub fleet and now (actually in September) he’s holding forth on the events surrounding the plane hitting our Pentagon on September 11, 2001. For a guy who’s supposed to be really sick I just wonder what he’s doing working on these memoirs. True he’s been on the receiving end of some crackpot schemes to rub him out in the past but he’s still here so no harm no foul right? I can hardly wait to see what he finally has to say about the Kennedy assassination.
Here’s Castro’s story -Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro said the U.S. government misinformed Americans and the world about 9/11, echoing conspiracy theories about the terror attacks against the United States six years ago.
Fidel Castro suggested that Washington has deliberately failed to stop terrorist attacks against Americans because it needed to “deliver a bang” that would justify its war on terror. “The government of the United States sees and hears all, with or without legal authority,” Castro wrote. “They can prevent any attack on their people, unless there is some imperial need to deliver a bang so that they can carry on with and justify the brutal war which has been declared against the culture, religion, economy and independence of other peoples.”
In an essay read by a Cuban television presenter on the evening of September 11, Castro said the Pentagon was hit by a rocket, not a plane, because no traces were found of its passengers. “Today one knows there was deliberate misinformation,” wrote Castro, who has not appeared in public since July of 2006 when life-threatening surgery for a secret illness forced him to hand over power to his brother Raul Castro.
“Studying the impact of planes, similar to those that hit the Twin Towers, that had accidentally fallen on densely populated cities, one concludes that it was not a plane that crashed into the Pentagon,” Castro said. “Only a projectile could have caused the geometrically round hole that allegedly was made by the plane,” he said. “We were fooled like the rest of the planet’s inhabitants,” he wrote.
Castro’s 4,256-word essay made no mention of Osama bin Laden and his militant Islamist al Qaeda network behind the attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and Washington. Castro said the truth behind the September 11 attacks with hijacked planes that killed nearly 3,000 people will probably never be known.
